Research Group on Epidemiology, Prevention and Tobacco Control (GRET)
Title: Research Group on Epidemiology, Prevention and Tobacco Control (GRET)
Contractor: Generalitat de Catalunya AGAUR (2009SGR192)
Duration: 2009-2012
Description: The general objectives of the Group for the next five years follow the objectives achieved in the period 2005-2008 as a Research Group Emerging and they are articulated around three axes:
1) the development of various projects already granted to achieve the proposed scientific objectives
2) the maintenance and transfer of scientific activities with other groups promoted through the Thematic Network on Tobacco Prevention, including the first conference of research on smoking Catalonia
3) the consolidation and increase of the research capacity of the Group (as regards increasing the number of members, ensuring their education and funding for new projects). The research group is part of the priority area of Research and Innovation Plan which is still in force (2005-2008) on research in biomedicine and health sciences. This epidemiological research, with integration of different disciplines (analytical methods, laboratory methods derived from psychology and health promotion, for example) are clear consequences for public health, one of the priority issues in the Plan Health of Catalonia on the horizon for 2010, as is the prevention and tobacco control.
